This was originally written several years ago, but I want to renew it now for this Chinese New Year, the year of the Wood Snake.
Watering the Seed of Sovereignty
This year,
the year I begin to emerge
as a genuinely harmonious and integrated being
This year,
the year I embrace my own path,
deepening my creative process and discipline,
unfolding gifts to share
while remaining
calmly grounded in a quiet source of peace,
absorbing clear nourishing moisture
through my roots in the ground:the ground of my composting experience,
of my ancestry,
of the whispers and encouragement of the dead,
ground enlightened and enlivened
by the ever-available guidance of angels. This year,
the year we begin from within
to create the world we want. The year we, the people
begin to take hold of our reality,
enhancing and engaging our power. The year we begin to shape and define our world
by what we do and contribute
rather than by horrors
we may have heard of or witnessed. The year we discover the courage
to face injustice and challenge it,
to face our own shadows,
to transform them. The year we find the courage
to Love unabashedly and profoundly,
to listen to each other
with reverence and humility,to question our own perspectives,
to laugh,
to cry,
to speak with integrity and articulation,
the truth as we continue to discover it.
Oh I absolutely love that painting of the seed sprouting/dancing woman... so simple, elegant, and beautiful! Enjoying the positive, hopeful, and empowered vibe of this poem and how you speak of the importance of acting with courage, love, reverence, and humility... a recipe for harmony and evolution!
I love how you honor both the roots and the unfolding, the past and the becoming. There’s something powerful about revisiting old words. Thank you for sharing 💜
